hello, im mike from menifee. occasionally i smoke i dont know why i guess you can say i get bored. i had just recently found god and i am trying to change my life around. is smoking bad? is it just as big of a sin as every other one? the thing is that i get bored a lot and i figure you know scince ive stopped a lot of the other bad habits in my life for god. i figure one cigarette wont hurt anything. please pray that ultimately i can stop thank you and god bless

Smoking is a habit that is hard to break for some people. As to Judging whether it is a sin there are different oppinions to that. I Know that smoking is bad for your health. Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit. We are defiling God and the Holy Spirit when we bring harm to our bodies. Ask God for Him to help you stop smoking. God will take the desire for smoking away from you, but you might have to do some serious Praying. God bless you for your honesty. I Pray that I have said something to encourage you. ODIE

1 Corinthians 6:19-20. “What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

God desires that only His Holy Spirit control us (Eph. 5:17-18) and nothing else.

Mikel it is very important when you become a new christian to put off the old man and put on the new man... this includes all things that defile the body or controls us. Right now you may just be smoking when you are bored just like most alchoholics began drinking by just drinking with their friends on "happy hour" and then wound up with an uncontrollable urge to drink and not be able to stop... smoking eventually creates this same addiction... only worse... It is harder to quit. I pray that you trust God's word that all that defiles the body is bad and you obey it. Stay as close to God now as you can as satan will try very hard to win new christians back. As my preacher used to say new christians are nothing but "devil bait". He will be after you with temptations that you will have to take a stand for your God and your new life you have chosen just like Jesus did. Read your Bible or quote scriptures out loud when you get the urge to smoke and as Odie said ask God to help you to give up all things that defile your body and the Holy Spirit he has put inside you... (that question to even think to ask other christiansst; "Is this bad for me or wrong"?... comes to you from the Holy Spirit God gave you.) Trust God and Obey Him and it will fill your soul with Joy!!!

Father I pray that you lift up Mikel and strengthen him to hear your word and to know your word and DO YOUR Word. Father I pray that you help him to recognise the small faint thoughts or voice you speak to him with the holy spirit and he hears and obeys you. Father I pray that you help him to grow to higher levels as a strong Christian and a strong man of Faith in the Truth and he becomes a blessing to many lives he touches. Father give him the grace and the love that changes all bad habits that may lead to serious addictions that can kill his body. Help him to learn and accept and to be thankful of the warnings that are written on the packages of the very thing he questions and to be able to lay them down and never pick them up and put them to his mouth again. In Jesus name I pray
