Lord I am praying for this relationship between this couple. I pray that you open the way to communication. I pray that you open eye's to the problems that they face, and what to do about them. I pray that the Holy Spirit speak through them, and the hurts begin to heal.
***I do not know the specifics of your situation, but I would like you to just consider if what I am going to offer you(in the way of a solution) may work for you. ***Try not to pressure Joe into anything right now. A lot of times when someone leaves they are running from something. Try to not contact Joe at all. Let him be the one to contact you. I know this is hard to do, as sometimes one is just so scared that they are gone forever that they push the other person farther away, by being persistant in looking for any sign that there is still hope for their relationship.
***If you can just not contact him, maybe he'll start wondering what you are doing, and will contact you. ***If he does, keep the conversation light, and stay away from the pressure. Don't let on that your every thought is of him. Just say you miss him, and are staying busy.
***Keep yourself busy, and try not to alienate yourself from family, and friends. Try to just get up in the morning, take a shower, and get busy cleaning etc. ***If your not careful you'll just stay at home, fail to take showers, and let things go because you are overwhelmed.
