"Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, 'Because I bore him in pain. 'And Jabez called on the GOD of Israel saying, 'Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain.' So GOD granted him what he requested" (1 Chronicles 4:9-10).
Abba Father, with grateful hearts, we lift Grace up in prayer to You, LORD. We pray in earnest, zealous, sincere, and determined. We are told that "the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much" (James 5:16).
Abba Father, we pray with humility.
"Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of GOD, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you" (1 Peter5:6-7).
Righteous Father, may our earnest, fervent prayer that is prayed in true humility be honorable before You.
May our attitude reflect the attitude of Jabez who directed his prayer to GOD. Because we are to worship the LORD our GOD and Serve Him alone. Yeshua *Jesus* you have taught us to address our prayers, saying, "Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name" (Matthew 4:10, 6:9). As we direct such prayer to Father GOD, we are pleased to demonstrate that we are trusting in and thus dependent on You, LORD, for everything that is needed. "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to GOD" (Philippians 4:6).
We lift the petition on Grace's heart to You, Righteous Father. Grace's prayer request for a personal blessing. We know in asking GOD's blessing, we are asking Him to bestow divine favor. Therefore, Abba Father, we ask for You to bestow divine favor upon Grace's life and in Grace's work relationships, especially the relationship between Grace and her boss.
Like the Psalmist prayed, "Save Your people, and bless Your inheritance; shepherd them also, and bear them up forever" (Psalm 28:9).
Like Jabez, we also asked the Father to enlarge Grace's borders.
Thank You, LORD, for Your Word has said that if we serve You faithfully, You will provide for us (Matthew 6:33).
Like Jabez who beseeched that GOD's hand would be with Him, no doubt to provide protection and guidance. We too pray with the Psalmist, "Lead [Grace] in Your truth and teach [Grace], for You are the GOD of [Grace] salvation; on You [Grace] wait all the day" (Psalm 25:5)
Like Jabez who expressed a petition that GOD would keep him from evil. Yeshua *Jesus* also indicated that His disciples should pray for GOD's preservation and deliverance, as He taught them to say, "And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one" (Matthew 6:13). We thank You, Father GOD for Your protection, guidance, preservation, and deliverance You have provided for Grace. Alleluia!
(2 Timothy 3:16-17).
The reason why Jabez thus prayed was so that "he might not cause pain."
Abba Father, Let Grace not experience the grief such as the name Jabez implies, and which his sins would well produce. But, be pleased to Grant that the grief implied in the name Jabez may not come upon Grace!
And likewise, should be Grace's prayer, "I cling to Your testimonies; O LORD, do not put me to shame!" (Psalm 119:31).
With grateful hearts and praise we consider Your response, Father GOD, You granted Jabez what he requested. The LORD has promised us, "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened"
(Matthew 7:7-8).
Father GOD, You have said that You will hear and respond to the prayers of Your people. You, Abba Father, You are the source of every good and perfect gift (James 1:17). Therefore, we can trust You to answer our prayers, LORD, by providing what You know best that we need in harmony with Your will, just as You did with the prayer of Jabez.
In Christ Yeshua's name we pray, Amen and Amen
